The Semantics: Everyday it's rock 'n' roll.

I'm writing something for work when that phrase suddenly came into my mind. "Everyday is rock 'n' roll." And I just realized that, hell yeah, it is. Sometimes we get the kick out of banging the drums, sometimes strumming the bass, other days with the guitar, and sometimes we just can't help but be on the vocals--singing, writing, or talking about the daily slow and fast beats of life.

Sometimes we scream, sometimes we rush to follow the rhythm that seems to move too fast for us. Sometimes its so slow we tend to think it's some melodramatic love song--but even that is rock 'n' roll.

You see, I'm not mainly talking about the genre of music here. It is more on the semantics of rock 'n' roll. Because as I've observed it--everyday is truly rock 'n' roll. It's either we're rolling along with the waves, being all passive, saying yes and yes and yes, nodding our heads, and just doing the things we're supposed to do, sometimes even in automation. As a wife, a husband, a student, an employee, an employer, a partner, a lover. As a mother, a father, an older or younger sibling, as a friend, as a stranger. There are things that we are expected to do, there are things that are expected from us, and whether we want it or not, people will sometimes base their opinions on us depending on how much we come near their expectations. There are things expected from us, as a human being coexisting with other human beings. And as much as the defiant ones would hate this--sometimes we just really need to roll with the world and well, let life be.

And then here we go with the rocking, which is on a more personal sphere. We rock against the things within our scope, about things that we can have our thoughts about, about thing that we can react to, the things that happen directly to us or something that we're involved in. Rocking against the system, against authorities, against things that we find unnecessary, unfair, uncalled for, or just simply against our beliefs and principles. Things that were done to us or to other people or creature that they did not deserve, things that happen in our lives. Most of the time, we rock against these things. Back and forth maybe. Since at random times, we find ourselves looking back--reviewing, remembering. Back and forth, back and forth. We rock back and forth sometimes out of hesitation or indecision. Maybe sometimes because of fear. Of the past that we still haven't made peace with yet. So we continue to just rock, back and forth. Rocking against a set of rules, against people, beliefs, against the standard, the norm. And rocking against intolerance. Rocking against ourselves. An eternal tug-of-war that is constantly happening inside us. Of wanting this but not really, of hating something and loving it at the same time. Rocking between love and hate, doubt and trust, moving forward and being held back, remembering and forgetting, courage and fear.

Everyday it's rock 'n' roll. And even though taking steps forward seems so damn difficult--it is possible. Look back and see how far you've come. Look at the things you've survived. Remember those times that you thought it was the end, that you gave up on all possible happy endings, that you've cut loose from that last strand of hope--yet you're still here. Maybe not in the best condition, maybe you're still struggling like most of us, but the point here is this--everyday it's rock 'n' roll. Damn it, everyday is difficult, it is a matter of survival, we can die anytime, I can die right now, this building might get bombed or something, maybe tomorrow you'll get run over as you step out of the house--everyday is survival. It's all just rock 'n' roll. And if you decide to give up now, life will just go on enjoying the good music of rock 'n' roll--the only difference is there'll be a loss.

That's one singer less. That's one song lost. That's one story that the world will fail to hear.

Everyday it's rock 'n' roll.

Live. Take your time. Practice. Make mistakes. Learn from experience.
Live. Take your time. Be patient with yourself, with others, and with the world.
Go on... Take your time.
Life will just be here.
Waiting for you to sing.

Everyday it's rock 'n' roll.
