Finally, after so many failed attempts of trying to meet up with Bianca, the "reunion" happened. We met up after my class, ate isaw and ice cream, went to the mall and had dinner at McDo. Then we each had a glass of Vodka Tonic at some pub. Afterwards, we were still hungry so she ordered a Mango Crepe and I had a huge plate of nachos at Kangaroo Jack! Hoho. KJ's a nice place and their menu was pretty okay. Food was good too and the live band was...well..it's better to hear music rather than nothing. Heh. Some of the songs they sang took Bianca and I by surprise. We often fail to finish our sentences because the band would sing songs that hit home. Yihaa. Life.
Throughout the evening, Bianca and I reminisced about our college life and how we are right now. Last year, I wrote that the on-the-job training has this way of catapulting us students into the real world for a brief moment only to reel us back in to the four cornered classroom.
Now, after graduation, there's no more classroom for us to be reeled back in. No more allowance from our parents, no more homeworks from professors and no more classes. Also, no more friends to meet up during idle moments, no more seatmates to chat with when the class is boring and no more classmates to share stories with while the teacher's not yet there. No more heartfelt conversations on the corridors, no more going to the comfort room in groups just to check ourselves in the mirror. No more drinking sessions, no more hi-hello with acquaintances, friends and professors.
We are now in this state where every decision is crucial, where choices to be made could alter our lives forever. This is the point wherein there's so many things ahead of us. The moment where once we step inside, we'll never be able to get out from this wild, roller coaster ride. Well, life in general is, anyway. Not just this phase.
Nonetheless, we can't help but feel...stuck. Everything is moving too fast and we're just sitting here, watching the world pass by in its own speed. We now carry a baggage heavier than before. Back then, it was just about waking up early the next morning, meeting a deadline or finishing a paper. Now, it's about getting a job, developing a career or dealing with life-altering, not to mention traumatic experiences.
Where do we stand in the total scheme of things? In this constellation of 7 billion of people, who are we and what could we do?
After graduation, we were no longer the fun students of this particular university, we already lost our identity, our clique. We're all back to square one. Some are moving on fast, while some of us remain stuck--afraid of making decisions or sometimes just not knowing what to do.
And now, this is the time for us to seek ourselves and find a new identity. And hopefully, we'll look back on this meaningful night and just laugh at our self-doubt. Hopefully.
